In the rhythm of the church year, there are two high points: the celebration of Christmas and the celebration of Easter. Each of these has a season – 12 days of Christmas and 50 days of Easter – and each of these has a season that prepares for the festival, and a season that lingers in its shadow.

Since the season of Christmas ends with the Feast of the Epiphany (the star and the magi), the season after Christmas is called the Sundays after the Epiphany.

In some ways we are back to ordinary Sundays, but the song of the angels continues to echo through this season, as does the theme of light or revelation. Jesus has been revealed to the world. The star shone for all to see. Now we read the stories of the beginning of Jesus’ ministry – his baptism, the calling of his first followers, his first healings and teaching. Now we begin to see what it means to say that the child of Bethlehem is our hope.

Main Street Singers Concert

The highly regarded Los Altos High School Main Street Singers will be the featured performers in a joyous holiday concert to benefit the programs and services of the Community Services Agency, which serves Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, and Mountain View. This special holiday event is for music lovers of all ages.

With extraordinary professional precision, the young voices of the world-class Main Street Singers will delight the audience as they sing songs of the season. Also performing will be gifted organist JinKyung Lim, Organist and Choir Director of Los Altos Lutheran Church.

The concert will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2011, at 7:00 PM, at Los Altos Lutheran Church, 460 South El Monte Avenue (at Cuesta Drive), in Los Altos. A reception will be held immediately following the concert. Admission is by free-will donation at the door.

All donations will directly benefit the vital programs and services of the Community Services Agency, including emergency services, senior services, homeless services, and the holiday toy and food drive.
